Book Review: Shattered: A Daughter's Regret (Secrets) by Melody Carlson

This is a heart wrenching story about a choice a young girl makes and how it changes her life forever. Cleo makes some bad choices and decisions throughout the book. It is a raw view of her pain and the forgiveness that she needed to move on. Her relationship with her Dad and Aunt display how important we as adults are in teens lives. It is a great book about God's healing power and how to move on in life after a tragedy. Melody Carlson handles the subject of grief and guilt with truth and honesty. She shows the grace of God and His forgiveness in our lives in hard situations is key to a life free from the shackles of guilt. I recommend this book for older teen girls! It is also a great opportunity for a mom to read it with her daughter because it contains some serious subject matter that could open doors for some great conversation and teaching moments. It would also work great as a youth group book study for a small group of girls. I am going to use it with our high school teens someday. I would recommend this book fully!

Book Review: Love Food and Live Well: Lose Weight, Get Fit, and Taste Life at its Very Best

This book covers everything you need to know about living a healthy, well-balanced life. Chantel tells us from experience the way to overcome our views of food and exercise while showing us practical ways to succeed at being healthy. I am pretty up on healthy living and I was impressed by her knowledge and thoroughness. Plus, I learned some new techniques and exercises. I especially loved ho much time she spent on educating about food and how our bodies digest, what types we need for energy, and a healthy attitude toward food itself. She relies on God and how He made us as a guide. She also shows us that relying on Him and His love is the center of our life and living it in a healthy manner. It is a cutting edge, thorough, and educating book that I would recommend to anyone.

One Crazy Summer Already!

I have never been so busy in my life! Nor have I had more life changes in a small amount of time. I am working the two jobs as I mentioned before, about 55 hours together! All four kids are in summer basketball programs, football, and weight training. My husband resigned from his youth pastor job and is looking for a job (not in youth ministry for a bit. We need some healing time!) I graduated from college and passed the teaching exam! I almost have my license to teach in MI. (I live in WI. It is a long story!) It has been stressful but also humbling to remember that everything good comes from God and that although it may get tough, He has always provided for us! I am excited to have a break in the chaos to visit with you all again. I have missed my blogging friends:)

New Jobs and One Crazy Life

I just started a new job. I work at a preschool during the day and I have a new night job for the summer. During the last 2 weeks, I have had to work both! Needless to say, no deals came out of this blog because of it:) I will try to set you all up this week! Have a great end of the school year!

Meeting Jolene Anderson

I spent this weekend, Mother's Day no less, is a gym watching my 12 year old daughter get beaten and bruised and loving every minute of it! She is a hardcore basketball player! I look at the stance that she takes on defense when the point guard from the other team is dribbling down the court. My thighs just hurt looking at it! But she is one tough chick and I love to watch her play! 

They came is third place, only getting beat by an 8th grade team (she is in 7th). It was awesome! My husband gets the privilege of coaching this amazing group of girls! He loves every minute of this! I never thought that I would see the day that he would coach a group of preteen, hormonal girls but he is great at it and they love him and more importantly, listen to him.

The girls also got to meet Jolene Anderson who just got signed to the WNBA team Chicago Sky. She spoke to the girls about working hard and never settling. Also about grades being important! She did a great job! Anderson played for University of Wisconsin and was the top scorer for boys and girls with 2,312 career points.

Review of the book Goodbye, Hollywood Nobody: A Novel by Lisa Samson

I am a youth leader at our church for 6th grade to 12th grade girls. I thought that it would be fun to read this book because I am always interested in finding good, clean books for teen girls to read that are relevant to the culture in which they live. This book did just that!  It is the fourth and final book in a series. I would like to go back and read the first through third books because although she did a great job at explaining the past events, I was still lost a few times. It was an easy read and had a lot of great encouragement and lessons for young girls and adults. One of those lessons was that God can help you love anyone because on our own, we can't. The main character Scotty is an amazing young girl whose has obviously gone through many trials in her young life. She is a junior in high school but she has the wisdom of an older girl. She is faced with the trials of loss, dating, and loving the unlovable. She learns lessons in kindness, loving someone enough to let them go, and control. I loved this book! I would totally recommend it to a teen girl and her mom for reading!

NatureLuxe Product Review

This is my first Bzz Agent Review! I am so excited! About 2 weeks ago I received a free NatureLuxe Silk Foundation and  Lip Gloss from Covergirl Cosmetics!
     I immediately put them to use. I am not a big fan of foundation for my face because I have huge pores (such a joy) and the makeup often clogs them and creates chaos for my skin. I gave it a try anyways because I am always looking for new product and I am optimistic every time! I first noticed that the foundation was very light and easy to apply, even over my crater pores. It covered nicely and latest all day long with out disappearing with my oily skin. I tried it for the whole 2 weeks and not once did my skin break out! Woo Hoo! My 12 year old daughter loves it too! I had to buy Kathryn her own with the coupons that they gave to me so that I could stop hiding mine! I gave the other coupons to my friends and to the teens that hang at my house. $1 is great when it comes to make-up.
     I also love the lip gloss that they gave me to try! I usually wear it over my lipstick to keep it moist cause I hate crusty lipstick! Eww! When I do this, my lips can get too shiny and all I see in the mirror is wet lips but the NatureLuxe lip gloss is shiny but not overbearing. It keeps my lips moist all day and I don't lose it all on my coffee cup! It goes on smoothly with out removing my lipstick! Saturday is the best shopping day! With our four kids in sports, church activities, and school demands a day off to go shopping with my kids is relaxing! I know that sounds weird, but I love it! We make games out of it! I give each kid $10 and they go and see what they can get for that much, nothing over and have a show and tell! They love it! I put a few stipulations on it! It has to be something that they will use or give to someone else as a gift. No junk! I hate waste:)
Thank God for the Internet where you can shop at home in your jammies if you feel exhausted like I do today and I just want to have a "cave day" where I hunker down with my family and we do nothing but read, play games, and hang out together!
